FAQ

Why does Precious Ledgers open in a web browser if it’s offline software?

Precious Ledgers uses a local web interface because it provides a fast, reliable, and familiar experience. The browser is simply the display layer - all processing, storage, and logic run locally on your computer. No internet connection is required for day-to-day use.

Think of it like a local dashboard, not a website.

When does Precious Ledgers require an internet connection?

Internet access is only required for:

  • Initial license activation

  • Optional spot price refresh

Spot prices are normally fetched on demand. If you prefer not to use internet pricing, you may manually edit spot prices at any time to reflect your own sources or valuations.

Does Precious Ledgers track me or my data?

Precious Ledgers does not track usage, behavior, or financial data.

However, limited information is involved in licensing:

  • Information entered during license purchase (such as your email address) is known to the licensing system

  • At activation time, a machine fingerprint is recorded

This information is used only to:

  • Validate your license

  • Enforce the limit of up to three computers per license

It is not used for analytics, monitoring, or visibility into your records.

What operating systems are supported?

Precious Ledgers currently supports:

  • Windows 10

  • Windows 11

Mac and Linux are not supported at this time.

Can I save and back up my data?

Yes. All data is stored locally and can be:

  • Backed up manually

  • Copied to external drives

  • Archived for long-term storage

  • Restored onto the same or a different machine (license permitting)

You remain in full control of your records.

What happens if my computer dies?

As long as you have a backup of your data folder, your records can be restored. This is why we strongly recommend periodic backups, just as you would with any important financial documents.

Is Precious Ledgers a subscription?

No. Precious Ledgers is sold as a one-time license. There are no monthly fees, forced renewals, or cloud dependencies.

Is my data encrypted?

Your data is stored locally under your operating system’s security model. You control disk encryption, system access, and backups. No third-party encryption keys or servers are involved.

Why doesn’t Precious Ledgers support mobile or web accounts?

Because real ownership means control. Cloud apps introduce dependencies, subscriptions, and third-party access. Precious Ledgers is intentionally designed to run on your machine, under your authority.

Who is Precious Ledgers built for?

Precious Ledgers is built for people who:

  • Value privacy

  • Prefer ownership over subscriptions

  • Track physical assets like gold and silver

  • Want long-term, reliable recordkeeping without surveillance

Is Precious Ledgers made in the United States?

Yes. Precious Ledgers is designed and built in the United States with a focus on correctness, longevity, and respect for customer privacy.

Can I upgrade to Premium later if I change my mind?

Yes. If you’re on a Standard license, you can upgrade to Premium at any time. An optional upgrade license is available, and you’ll only pay the remaining balance toward the full Premium license.

What if I need help?

Support is available, but assistance never requires access to your data. You decide what to share, if anything.
